AI Job Interview Task

If you are a hiring manager then here is an essential new task to add to your in person interviews.

During the face to face interview ask them:

“If you were to get this position, what are three ways that you would use AI tools to improve your effectiveness in the role”

This will show you whether they are comfortable thinking about how to augment their own skills with AI.

You will pick up quickly whether:

  1. they have done this before in their current role,

  2. whether they mention tools other than the default “ChatGPT”, and

  3. whether they think about AI as a way to deliver better outcomes or just a way to save time (and do other things instead).

Next up the fun bit.

Build in time to your candidate schedule so that you can say:

“I’m now going to leave you here for 30 minutes, and I’d like to build out an example to walk me through.”

Depending on the role that might be developing customer research, building a product roadmap, or analysing a financial statement.

If you have two candidates and:

  • one is floundering with a basic ChatGPT request “Help me build a product roadmap”

  • the other has built out a Claude Project, with a detailed prompt and project knowledge integrated with a Github repo, and is presenting their sample roadmap

I know which one I’m hiring.

Note: I am not recommending one tool over the other (ChatGPT has projects) more to make the point that this candidate is using non-familar tools to solve a role specific problem.

Hiring AI-enabled and AI-positive employees is going to be the biggest flex for companies moving forward.

You aren’t hiring a person - you are hiring an army.
